G-FORCE

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer brings his first 3-D film to the big screen with "G-Force," a comedy adventure about the latest evolution of a covert government program to train animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy equipment, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws. Tapped for the G-Force are guinea pigs Darwin (voice of Sam Rockwell), the squad leader determined to succeed at all costs; Blaster (voice of Tracy Morgan), an outrageous weapons expert with tons of attitude and a love for all things extreme; and Juarez (voice of Penelope Cruz), a sexy martial arts pro; plus the literal fly-on-the-wall reconnaissance expert, Mooch, and a star-nosed mole, Speckles (voice of Nicolas Cage), the computer and information specialist. Along the way, the G-FORCE encounters myriad other members of the animal kingdom, including pet shop layabout Hurley (voice of JON FAVREAU) and the rabidly territorial hamster Bucky (voice of STEVE BUSCEMI). Its fun to take films based on familiar, even classic themes, give them a twist and see what evolves, says Bruckheimer. Movies about secret agents have been on screen long before James Bond, and movies in which animals speak and have personalities have also been with us for quite some time. What we've never seen, however, is a movie about secret agents who also happen to be animals, whats more in a combination of live action, animation and Digital 3D. [D-Man2010]

The film revolves around a team of trained secret agent animals: guinea pigs Darwin (team leader) (Sam Rockwell), Juarez (martial arts) (Penélope Cruz), Blaster (weapons/transportation) (Tracy Morgan), mole Speckles (cyber intelligence) (Nicolas Cage), and fly Mooch (high-tech surveillance) (Edwin Louis). The team takes on a mission for the US government to stop evil billionaire Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy), who plans to destroy the world with household appliances. Before they can accomplish their mission, the government shuts them down and they are sentenced to a pet shop. Darwin, Juarez, Blaster, Speckles, Mooch, and their new friends Hurley (Jon Favreau) and hamster Bucky (Steve Buscemi) will escape the cage to defeat the villain, stop his threat, and save the world. Artificial Brain

Artificial Intelligence is a staple of science fiction thrillers–from HAL 9000 to Wargames. The second we established the concept of AI, we pretty much knew that it would hate us with an undying passion. Perhaps we just have collective self-esteem issues; no sci-fi masterpiece depicts an AI that, upon coming online and searching its database in an effort to better understand mankind, responds by shouting, “You guys are awesome! We should get nachos!”

So clearly, creating conventional AI sounds risky; we’re naturally assuming hatred and villainy will be an unintentional byproduct. But what happens if you instead simulate a human brain, with the same moral equilibrium, emotions and reactions we possess?

It’s not that far-fetched: Henry Markram, director of the Blue Brain Project, claims that scientists will most likely perfect the artificial human brain in the next decade. They’ve already got the first elements of an artificial rat brain nailed down which, incidentally, might explain why the Internet keeps hissing at us and scurrying into the corner.

How This Will Change The World:

At his presentation at the TED Global Conference, Markram spoke of such virtues as the ability to solve philosophical questions that have been plaguing mankind (or at least former psychology majors who couldn’t hack the bio requirements) for centuries, a greater understanding of how to treat mental impairments and even the elimination of pharmaceutical drug experimentation on humans. It makes sense, doesn’t it? If there’s an accurate simulacrum of a human brain on your laptop that’s perfectly capable of telling you that these virtual blue pills cause it to see screaming and have trapped it in a shame cube, why bother putting actual test subjects through the same torture?

How This Will End The World:

People are emotional, unpredictable and capable of great cruelty. Now take away all physical pleasure and/or consequences and find out how it reacts.

If you can’t imagine such horrors, don’t worry because we’ve already started doing that: It’s called the Internet.

Thanks to the web, we don’t connect with each other physically as often as we used to and, as a side effect, we’ve seen an increase in rage, frustration and loneliness. Apparently, physical proximity is the only thing keeping empathy alive. Of course, this version of a virtual brain wouldn’t possess the same worrying super-intelligence that we’ve been worrying about in our sci-fi, but really, is that comforting? After all, it’s rarely the learned scholars who kill you for a hot dog and act surprised when they get the death penalty.

Blu Ray Discs-Next Generation Optical Discs

Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.

While current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. Despite the different type of lasers used, Blu-ray products can easily be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB. Recent development by Pioneer has pushed the storage capacity to 500GB on a single disc by using 20 layers.

Blu-ray is currently supported by about 200 of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer, recording media, video game and music companies. The format also has support from all Hollywood studios and countless smaller studios as a successor to today's DVD format. Many studios have also announced that they will begin releasing new feature films on Blu-ray Disc day-and-date with DVD, as well as a continuous slate of catalog titles every month. For more information about Blu-ray movies, check out our Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray reviews section which offers information about new and upcoming Blu-ray releases, as well as what movies are currently available in the Blu-ray format.

Fun Fitness

Many people believe there's no such thing as fun fitness. In their minds, a good workout means trudging on a treadmill or lugging weights around a joyless gym, and that there’s no gain without the pain.

This, of course, is nonsense. There are many ways to combine fun and fitness.

Activities that fall under the fun fitness umbrella include:
  • Competitive sports - Basketball, Soccer,Tennis, and Racquetball are some competitive sports that can help improve your fitness. Some gyms are even offering competitive dodge ball as a fun game to get your heart pumping.
  • Outdoor activities - Walking, jogging, bicycling, and swimming can get you out in fresh air and sunshine, making your fitness workout feel less like work and more like play. Other options include kayaking, hiking, inline skating, and skateboarding.
  • Martial arts - Classes that teach karate, jujitsu, judo, tae kwon do, or kickboxing provide a workout aimed at improving your fitness, coordination, and mental discipline.
  • Dance classes - Energetic ballroom dancing is considered a vigorous workout by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Sports Medicine. Dance styles like the salsa, meringue, and mambo can keep you whirling and twirling so much you forget you're actually getting into shape.
  • Acrobatics - Activities like tumbling, headstands, and somersaults can condition your body and help you feel like a kid again. You can use a balance beam, rings, or just a padded floor. Bouncing on a trampoline is another type of acrobatic fitness fun. Just be careful — these activities can lead to injury if your form is off or you lose your balance.
  • Kid stuff -Don't discount the fitness to be had in kids’ activities like jumping rope or riding a pogo stick. For example, jumping rope improves your balance, stamina, and coordination, while working muscle groups in your arms, legs, chest, back, shoulders, and abdomen.
  • Nintendo Wii - The venerable video game maker upped the fun factor for fitness when it released its Wii Fit game. Other game makers have followed suit with more video workouts involving the Wii.
Finally, You can make any fitness activity more fun by recruiting a workout buddy or joining a group.

Tips to Keep Your Nails Strong and Sexy

When you write down your shopping list, as you punch a phone number into your cell, while you wash dishes, do the ironing, clean the windows, or do one hundred other things that women do on any given day, do you take notice of the condition of your nails?

Our hands are such an integral part of our daily lives, and constantly, we risk their health and strength, often without even noticing, because of the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day activities. Take a few moments each day, or at least a few times a week, to monitor the condition of your nails; the color, the texture, the appearance of ridges or white marks.

Make a greater effort to take good care of your nails, and you will be thrilled with the way they complement your wardrobe and your own personal style. Consider the following tips as a way to enhance the health and quality of your nails.

For Great, Healthy Nails:

  • Apply speed-dry nail polish when time is of the essence.
  • Drink lots of water. Keep your body hydrated everyday to maintain healthy nails.
  • Fortify your diet with FDA approved vitamins or supplements. Your fingernails count on you to be responsible with your health and your diet. Unless instructed otherwise by your physician, increase your daily doses of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, folic acid, protein, Vitamin B12, and zinc.
  • Touch up your manicure on a daily basis to prevent chips and cracks.
  • Your nails depend on you to maintain a healthy diet. Take in lots.

Nail polish tips:

  • Finish with a clear topcoat to add gloss and sheen.

  • Start with a base coat to strengthen and protect the nails.

  • Store nail polish in the refrigerator to maintain a smooth consistency.

  • Try not to store nail polish in a room that becomes cold. The nail polish bottles may break without warning, leaving you with a big mess.

To avoid breaking nails or brittle nails:

  • Avoid using your nails as tools. This means no picking, scratching, digging, pinching, etc. You know who you are!

  • Increase the amount of calcium in your diet.

  • Use products containing alcohol, especially perfumed lotions, sparingly. These items can make nails prone to breaking.
  • Wear rubber gloves when you do chores that involve continual submersion in water or contact with harsh detergents or chemicals.

Sean Paul's latest album - Imperial Blaze

"So Fine," the first single from Sean Paul's upcoming "Imperial Blaze," is a litmus test for both the artist and dancehall music itself. Paul has been the Jamaican genre's ambassador for a decade. But with four years separating the singer from his last album, "Trinity," does reggae's Mr. Reliable still have the power? Over a jittery yet danceable rhythm produced by dancehall boy wonder Stephen "Di Genius" McGregor, "So Fine" offers the sort of digestible, ambiguous lyrics that have always made Paul's music so easy to embrace.

Yet it hardly brings heat the way past No. 1s "Get Busy" or "Temperature" did. He hasn't lost his touch when it comes to crafting catchy club-fillers, but Paul will have to show us what else is in his "Imperial" bag before he can reclaim his throne as dancehall's ruler.

Cell Phone Use Increases Risk of Brain Tumors, New Study Finds

The International EMF Collaborative released a report to draw attention to studies linking brain tumors and cell phone use and debunking the findings of the Interphone studies. The report emphasizes dangers of cell phone use by children and teens and recommends awareness campaigns.

A group calling itself the International Electromagnetic Field Collaborative released an impassioned, 44-page report on Aug. 25 with the intent of drawing attention to studies showing a significant risk of brain tumors from cell phone use and exposing what it calls “design flaws” in the Interphone study protocol.

The 13-country Interphone study is said to be the largest case-control study to investigate the relationship between brain tumors and cell phone use. The EMF Collaborative, which comprises the EM Radiation Research Trust, the EMR Policy Institute, ElectromagneticHealth.org and The Peoples Initiative Foundation, describes the Interphone study as funded by the telecom industry and biased in its methods and findings.

Resource Library:
Wanting to “raise red flags” to alert government officials and journalists to findings beyond those of Interphone, the group cites data from international sources, including a Swedish study that found an 280 percent increased risk of brain cancer after 10 or more years of digital cell phone use.

The Swedish study reportedly also cites a 420 percent increased risk of brain cancer for users who began using a cell phone as teens or younger, and among adults, it found the risk of brain cancer to increase by 8 percent for every year of cell phone use.

The EMF Collaborative report, “Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern,” includes concerns that research funded by the telecom industry has also found cell phone use to elevate the risk of brain tumors; that there have been warnings from governments, including those of the United Kingdom, Israel, Finland and Germany, about children’s cell phone use; that cell phone radiation is shown to damage DNA, an established cause of cancer; and the little-discussed fact that many cell phone manuals warn users to keep the phone away from their bodies when it’s not in use.

Speaker Bags Play Music from your iPod

These speaker bags don’t just look like speakers, but they are speakers for iPods, and I would imagine iPhones. It brings out about 30 watts worth of power, which is enough to disturb the salespeople and other customers as the girls throw high-priced items into the bag itself.

Of course, I don’t know how much the bag can hold with the dock inside, but hey, it’s all about style, isn’t it? I do know that the dimensions are 46 x 12 x 11 centimeters. Now if only they would make this in pink. Rich heiress girls from Beverly Hills would be all over this. “Yeah, we love shopping with the speaker bag”.

As it is, rich heiress girls would probably be the only ones who can afford this, as it costs $335.

By the way, the bags themselves have a wooden finish, and they weigh about 1.5 kilograms. So they might not be comfortable to carry around all day. They do stand up straight, and work well as stereo speakers for your desktop PC.
